Howarth Cake
400g mixed dried fruits, peel, etc
250g butter
500g flour
250g sugar
1 egg
1 tsp baking soda dissolved in a little milk
essences to taste, vanilla, almond, lemon, etc to taste
milk to mix
- cream butter and sugar
- add eggs and beat mixture well
- add sifted flour, stirring in carefully
- add fruit
- add soda and milk until mixture is of dropping consistence
- bake in a moderate oven, about 180°C for at least one hour
