Songbooks
My first songbook, the "Little Red Songbook" dates back to about 1971. It is full of handwritten songs, some 136, many of the lyrics painstakingly transposed from listening to the radio, and a few from LPs. In the back is an index, and scattered throughout the book is bon mots and other more or less witty and pithy sayings. A selection follows:
On the cover is
"If this book should chance to roam, box its ears and send it home,
If that does not serve it right, blow it up with dynamite!!?"
"Make your mark, but mind what your mark is."
"Alas for those who never sing, but die with all their music in them -- O W Holme"
This is the author's own work and represents their interpretation of the song.
