280g butter 280g sugar 5 eggs 340g flour 2 tsp mixed spice 230g currants 110g raisons 230g sultanas 110g mixed peel 110g glace cherries 110g blanched almonds pinch of salt 1 lemon

cream butter and sugar
mix in eggs one at a time
mix dry ingredients in a bowl and fold gradually into mixture
add a little milk to make a stiff dropping consistency
place a tray on bottom rack, and cake on next rack on newspaper with newspaper tied round
cook in cool oven 130°C for 6 hours.

Serves 24
