[alerts]=12 February 2026 Predator control for Upper Oreti and Eyre Creek, Eyre Mountains Conservation Park and Snowdon Forest Conservation Area
We plan to distribute toxic meat baits by helicopter on the next available weather window from 19 February 2026. This is following the non-toxic application which occurred on 9 February 2026.
Upper Oreti and Eyre Creek, Eyre Mountains Conservation Park and Snowdon Forest Conservation Area will remain open. You are advised not to walk tracks on the day of the operation.
The operation is an aerial trial of Proterma predator bait which is an 18 g meat-based sausage with 4.5 mg of sodium fluoroacetate (1080) being developed to target feral cats and stoats.
The toxin is poisonous to animals – this includes humans and domestic animals. Dogs are particularly susceptible to sodium fluoroacetate. Warning signs will be placed at points of access. Observe the following rules when you see warning signs as they indicate that pesticide residues may remain in baits and carcasses.
Always remember:
Do not touch or eat the bait.
Watch children at all times.
Do not eat animals from this area.
Toxic baits and carcasses are deadly to dogs.
If you suspect poisoning always contact your local doctor, local hospital, or the National Poisons Centre. Phone: 0800 764 766 or dial 111.
